Frequent Heartburn Causes and Cures

Heartburn Food - What To Stay Away From

My favorite cookie is shortbread.  My mother baked a lot of it when I was growing up and I loved it.  Unfortunately, it's also my number one heartburn food.  I think it has something to do with all the butter in it!

It wasn't until I was in my twenties that I "got" the connection between what I ate and the heartburn that resulted (OK, I might have been a bit slow!).

But this leads to main point of this article and that is the need to be self-aware of what you are putting in your body.

The food and drink you take lie at the root of your heartburn so it makes sense for an examinaton of your diet to serve as the starting point for figuiring out the cause.

Heartburn food types

There's no exact list of what will cause heartburn or what foods to avoid with acid reflux since it can occur for different reasons for different people.  However, there are certain heartburn food types to either stay away from or to take less of until you identify what's causing you frequent heartburn.  These include:

  • Fried food
  • Greasy food
  • Juices (especially acidic ones)
  • Fruits

If you are a chocolate lover be aware that chocolate and reflux are related.  And acid reflux and drinking coffee are also closely tied together.

Carbonated drinks should be cutback although decaffeinated drinks are okay.  And if you are wondering does dairy foods make reflux worse, again it depends.  It can't be stressed enought for you to make notes of what you ate prior to a heartburn occurance.

If you take Omega 3 acid reflux supplements take note of the impact it has on your Heartburn symptoms becasue once again, everybody is affected differently.

If you are looking for a home remedy for heartburn then pay a visit to your local health food store.

When adults have heartburn for the first time, the first reaction might be "was that a heart attack."  Heartburn symptoms include a burning sensation and pain in the chest and heart area with other discomforts such as bloating and belching.

The symptoms can occure shortly after a meal, so pay attention to what you may have eatien. That is how you must try to identify the types that causes it so, you will be able to control it in the future.

Treating And Preventing Heartburn

The best way to prevent heartburn is to determine the heartburn food and try to avoid it however, most of us enjoy certain types of food enough to risk having a bit of heartburn at times for it; the good news is you don’t have to have heartburns anymore as there are many types of heartburn medication available in all drug and department stores that can be purchased without prescription.

If you know a type of food is going to cause you heartburn but still want to enjoy it you should try and moderate the quantity you eat and also take preventive heartburn medication before you start eating.

Tips

If you have persistent heartburn, common sense says that you should go and see your doctor.  Don't fight through it by taking over the counter medication.  Sometimes it's best to play it safe. Find out what food is best for your diet and eliminate heartburn food entirely if you can.
